My photography beginning
Some people begin their photography journey with a phone — and so did I. I was never drawn to selfies; instead, my gallery slowly became a little archive of memories, places, and fleeting details that caught my eye. Each photo was a small attempt to preserve the feeling of a moment before it slipped away.
That’s how I started a personal tradition — capturing photos during every school trip in elementary school. I was always the one walking ahead of everyone else, eager to be the first to take a photo and have a few quiet seconds before the crowd arrived. Then, I’d rush forward again, only to end up at the back once more. Almost every time our group stopped, I wouldn’t be listening to the tour guide — I’d be busy framing another shot. And whenever we had free time, I’d wander off on my own, chasing new angles and little details to photograph.
At first, I took photos to keep memories alive, but over time, something inside me started to change. I was slowly becoming increasingly passionate about capturing the world through my lens. In 2016, that growing passion led to one of the best surprises I could have imagined — a gift from my mom: a simple Nikon Coolpix S2700. It wasn’t a professional camera, but to me, it felt like the beginning of something special.
Around that time, my mum went on a work trip, and the children of the employees were allowed to join — so I tagged along. That trip became unforgettable, not just because of the places we visited, but because it was the first time I used my new Nikon camera. I still remember that feeling — that photography hypnosis — when everything else fades away, and all that matters is finding the following subject to capture. When I came home and saw the photos on a bigger screen, they were far from perfect, but I saw a spark of potential in them. And in that moment, I knew — photography would become my greatest passion. From that day on, it truly did.
I wish I had more photos from that trip with my mum, but at the beginning of my photography, I was careless and I deleted a lot of photos.
